Mechatronics / Mechanical Engineer
Description
RIF Robotics is augmenting the processing of surgical instruments with PacR: an autonomous robotic systems that assembles surgical trays in hospitals, guaranteeing completeness and accuracy. Our robots operate in dynamic real-world environments alongside people every day. We are a small, fast-paced team based in Atlanta building the first robotic workcell we’re taking to market.
The Role
We are looking for a Mechatronics / Mechanical Engineer to help design and build the physical system. This means developing CAD models, 3D printing models, helping with the selection of hardware components, embedded software development with embedded systems (e.g., Arduino, ClearCore, ESP32, etc.), calibrating and installing servo motors and motor drivers, wiring assemblies, assembling the chassis with extruded alumimum, etc.
This is a 60-day contract role designed as a mutual fit evaluation. If there is a great match between the contractor and the company, the position could transition to full-time with a salary and equity compensation package.
The role requires someone who can build and test physical systems in-person on Georgia Tech’s campus 4-5 days a week. We need someone who has experience designing, developing, and deploying physical systems that operate in the real world. The ideal candidate will have mechanical, electrical, and low-level programming experience.
Relocation
Unavailable for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Designing and reviewing CAD models that combine 3D printed parts and off-the-shelf hardware components
3D printing models, assembling models, and testing models
Assembling robotic workcells with extruded aluminum, 3D printed parts, and wiring assemblies (prototype numbers)
Identifying parts for purchase (bolts, belts, motors, wires, chassis components, etc.)
Requirements
3+ years of professional experience in hardware and electrical design and implementation
Strong proficiency in CAD software: SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.
Working knowledge of communication protocols: Serial (RS-232/485), I2C, SPI, etc.
Ability to read schematics and datasheets and collaborate effectively with electrical engineers and designers
Experience debugging mechanical and basic electrical issues
Strong communication skills and ability to work across software, electrical, and mechanical teams
